GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The monthly meeting of the Grammar School Board of Governors was held yesterday at the office of the Secretary (Mr. J. James). Colonel Haultain (in the chair), Messrs. Fenton and Mackechnie. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Junior Mastership.—Mr, Carson wrote accepting the duties of assistant master, commencing his work on the Ist November. Par.vell Allotments.—Mr. R. Evans wrote requesting a reduction of rent for the remainder of lease of his allotment in the endowments in Parnell.—lt was agreed to inform Mr. Evans that the Board had no power to deal with the application.—Mr. Thomas Hill asked for an extension, of lease of allotment No. 38 in the same endowments. The same decision as in the last appplication was come to. Njsw North Road Allotments. —Mr. E. Morris asked permission to erect two fourroomed cottages oa allotment 29. Declined. Hobson-street.—Mr. J. Craig informed the Board of the sale of his lease of lots 10 and 20, and submitted the transfer for the Board's approbation. Requisites for School.—The bead-master forwarded a list of sundry requirements for the school, which were agreed to as follows : —Scoria to be placed on grounds .around school, desk and platform for new master at a cost of £4 15j, box for Indian clubs at an expense of about 30a, conversion of space left by removal of old staircase into a room for janitor's family, hooks for suspension of maps, wall maps for new school-rooms, to cost, say £12, practice wicket for cricket clab in tho Domain, £5, the engaging of the Choral Hall for prize day. Inspector-General of Schools. — The head-master wrote informing the Board that Rev. W, J. Habeas, Inspector-General of Schools, had paid {he school a visit for the purpose of seeing that it was suitable for the district scholars. Grammar School Act. — Sir G. M. O'Rorke telegraphed to the Board on the 16th inst. as follo-vs:—"Grammar School Act assented to by the Governor to-day." Accounts.—The payment of accounts to the amount of £477 14s 4d for the month of October were authorised. The Chairman informed the Board that they were £300 overdrawn at the bank. The Finance Committee had authorised the payment of £452 4s. 3d for class-rooms, and £70 for work-shop. These payments were confirmed by the Board.
