Martha Txtekdbd (Walhi.) —Tho manager (Mr. J. H. Mooro) writes to • tho directors, under date October 14, as follows: I have been principally engaged last week in timbering up the low level, mo3t of the timber used being procured from the old Martha waterrace, which is very buitable for the purpose. I have kept the leading stopo going ahead, and over the ran it has been allowing gold freely, though scarcely as good aa it wob In the level. Tho reef is widening out to an immense size, and produces a large quantity of crushing dirt. I have teen keeping the twenty head going from this souree alone. The return of amalgam from the plates for the week was 110 ounce!, but very little of the good stuff had gone through. Not being satisfied with the appearancs of the reef which wo had been driving on for the last ten or twelve feet in tho low level on account of its flinty character and mullocky bangingwall, I started and put in a crosscut, and after driving seven or eight feet wo cut what I believe to be the reef proper. We have cut into it a couple of feet, and it is composed of nice rubbly quartz similar to its appearanco further back. As soon as 1 get tho leading stope forward and tho timbering finished, I shall trace back to whore it splits and follow it up. I may mention that there has been great difficulty In keeping on the reef at this particular point in all tho levels, as it breaks up Into several branches right through to tho surface, but comes together again a short distance ahead.
