Oob Loudon correspondent, in hi* letter published yesterday, stated that Tawhiao, Te Wheoro, and Topi* had attended the Temperance Fete at the Crystal Palace. The Chairman of the gathering was Sir Wil- ; fred Lawson, who said : He was present the other day at one of Mr. Stuart Cumberland's thought-reading exhibitions, and there was one man who care Mr. Cumberland a great deal of trouble, and he confessed that he was unable to find out what the man was thinking about. Presently the man mattered, "Brandy and soda. (Laughter.) That was what the man was thinking of, and that was what the nation was suffering from. (Cheers.) King Tawhiao, who was loudly applauded, then addressed the meeting in bis native tongue, each sentence of his speech being interpreted. He acknowledged himself proud of wearing the blue ribboo, and he was very glad that he came to Bogland. He had heard the name of the blue ribbon in New Zealand, but he did not know much about it. He had been for over three yearly fighting against the consumption of intoxicating liquors, which inflicted so much harm on his chiefs and people. (Cheers.) Many of the young ohiefs bad died from drinking, and he therefore oame to the conclusion that they should have nothing more to do with drink. (Loud applause.) Resolutions were afterwards passed in favour of total abetinence, Chief Topia being among the speakers, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the ChairnMt
