ERECTION OF A NEW SYNAGOGUE.
In response to an advertisement which appeared in our columns, thirteen designs were received for the erection of a Jewish Synagogue on the site at the junction of Princesstreet and Bowen. Aveuue. The various plans have been on view to the members,of the Hebrew community during the: past week at the stores of Messrs. A. H.Nathan and Co., Lower Queen-street, and at a meeting of the Special Building Committee, held yesterday (Mr. A. H. Nathan, President, in the chair), the various designs were carefully considered, and ultimately thene: deemed most.suitable reduced to.three, as follows :— "Expeeto Credo," "Experior," "andi'VMay, 18S4 ;" and after a careful consideration of the particulars accompanying the designs, " Expeoto Credo " was declared accepted, Mr. Bartley being the name of the deaigaer. Mr. Charles worth designed the second;-, and Mr. David Boss the third eligible plan. The building will be an ornament, to the bourhood. Its cost, without fittings, : will be about £3000, and these : latter will be of an elaborate and elegant character.'- :"}'''''[-,-..'■■' -<■,
