A CORRECTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—Under the heading "Calamo Currente," in the Herald of this date, the following words "occur-:—"That Bacon wae thrown into prison by his order in the thirteenth oentury for writing the Novum Orgaaum may be a pious opinion, bat not even a Bishop, speaking ex cathedra, can make it an article of belief." The writer refers, I assume, to an illustration of unappreciated work that I gave in my sermon at St. Paul's on Sunday morning last. If any of my hearers on that occasion had reason to think that I was confusing Roger Bacon with Sir Francis Bacon, I am sorry I did not make myself more clear. In any case, what I said wae (quoting the words of Dr; Whewell), "The great work of Roger Bacon, at once the Encyclopaedia and the Noyam Organum of the thirteenth century," is said to hare gained him a prison from his order. By publishing this correetion in your next iseue you would oblige.—l tm, *c, ■ ■ W. (*. Auckland, Bishop. Bishop's Court, Auckland, May 31, 18S-L
