CONGREGATIONAL UNION OF NEW ZEALAND.

[bt telegraph.—press association.] Wellington, Friday. At the Congregational Union to,-day the Rev. Mr. West moved," "That the Assembly records its disapproval oi any attempt to alter the present education system of, the colony in the direction oE a return to denominationalism, and that this Assembly pledges itself to use legitimate means at coming elections to give effect to their views on this question." This was seconded by Captain Daldy, and carried, with one dissention, after an animated debate, in which Dr. Roseby, the Revs. Houston, Tonkinson, Miller, RobertaoD, and Messrs. Clayden, Cox, and Smith, took part. Thereupon Captain Daldy moved, "That Mr. West's motion re education be referred to the executive committee of the Union to take euch action as they may think necessary to carry ont the spirit of the resolution." This was carried unanimously. The question of the legal incorporation of, the churches was introduced by Captain Daldy. After a lengthy discussion of the subject the matter was remitted to the churohes for consideration and suggestion. Progress roport of the finance committee was given by Dr. Roaeby. following were admitted personal members of the Union :—Messrs. J. C. Firtb, J. Bathgate, Kllyett,' Potter, Warner, bando, Lyon, Bell, Lindsay, Burne, Knowlea, Warley; and the Revs. J. Hamer, Dr. McDonald, Griffin, Jones, Appleby, Jones, Mandeno, and 6. H. Greenwood. The Congregational, Union held a tea and public meeting last night, both , of which were largely attended. The Rev. J. A. Robertson, of Anokland, delivered the annual address, the sabjeot being "Christianity and the Churches." Dr. Roaeby, of Dunedin, delivered an interesting leoture on congregational matters generally. Votes of thanks were passed.
