CRICKET.
BREWERS, WINE MERCHANTS, AND AERATED WATER MANUFACTURERS V. PUBLICANS. A cricket match between wine and spirit merchants, brewers, and aerated water manufacturers (combined) and publicans, was played at the Domain orieket ground yesterday. Play began at noon, —the combined team going first to the wickets. Each team consisted of eighteen players instead of eleven. Mr. H. L. Kidd waa captain of the combined team, and Mr. Dan Twohill was captain of the publicans. Mr. Foster was umpire for the publicaus, and Mr. Mumford for the brewers. There was a fair attendance, on the ground when the match began, and it increased during the afternoon. As might have been expected there were some very amusing exhibitions of cricket in the batting and fielding departments, especially the latter. The number of catches given, and missed, amounted to scores, whilst some of the overthrows were very ludicrous. These small faults, however, only afforded greater amusement to the players and the spectators. Lunch was provided on the ground, so also was liquor—the latter gratis—sent by the wine and spirit merchants. The Garrison Band, under Bandmaster Morris, played at intervals during the day. The proceeds of the match are to be devoted to the two Orphan Homes. £30 were taken on the ground, and it is estimated that the refreshments remaining over will fetch £20 at auction, making in all £50. The match concluded at six o'clock, and resulted in a win for the publicans by sixteen wickets and four runs. A single wicket match was afterwards played, the players being Mes»rs. Foster and Seccombe and Messrs. Dalgleish and Phillips. Messrs. Dalgleish and Phillips won easily. The following are the scores in the match, PublicanßV. Combined Team: —
