THE VICTORIAN GUNBOATS. London, February 6. The Victorian gunboats have reached Spithead. They behaved splendidly during a very rough passage, making an average of 8 knots an h'jur. The Admiralty are inquiring into the legality of the gunboats proceeding to their destination as men-of-war. MR. BOURKE'S AMENDMENT. London, February 6. The division on the Right Hon. Mr. Bourke's amendment on the Address-in-Reply was entirely a catch one, being taken during the dinner hour, when Sir Stafford Northcote, instead of speaking as was expected, astounded the House by calling for a division. The amendment was lost by 77 to 20. The only notable feature in the debate was Mr. Bourke's condemnation of the system of protectorates.
CETEWAYO NOT TO BE RESTORED. London, February 7. The Government have absolutely refused to restore Cetewayo.
HANLAN TO VISIT ENGLAND. London, February 7. It is reported that Hanlan is about to visit England. THE UNION COMPANY'S APPEAL CASE. London, February 7. In the appeal case before the Privy Council, the Union Company v. the Melbourne Harbour Trust, the appea* has been dismissed. DEATH OF MR. TODD. London, February 7. The death is announced of Mr. Alpheus Todd, the well-known Parliamentary writer.
