DRAMA.
In our notice of the theatres by the last mail, we recorded the success of Madame Louise Poineroy at Abbott's Opera House, in a series of legitimate English comedies and Shaksperian "revivals." It must be allowed that tho success thus achieved was a matter of surprise to most people, if not to the lady herself. Whether it indicates a restoration of popular taste to the old canons of dramatic art, is more than can be said. There were, however, specific features of her performances, which contributed largely to the prosperity of the season. In the first place the lady brought with her a good "all round " company, in the next place, her repertoire <?as full of completely rehearsed plays, so that she was able to produce a new play each night. Another circumstance which gave eclat to the season was the first appearance on the stage of Miss Mariebel Greenwood, a youDg lady of good social position, and of great ability. The clebut of the young lady was certainly a triumphant success. The criticisms of her performances are not without qualification, but her reception on every night she" appeared was most enthusiastic. She played Julie; to Madame Pomeroy's Romeo two successive nights. She played Ophelia to Madame Pomcioy'a " Hamlet" for a third appearance with equal success. The Court Minstrels and Hibernicon Comedy Company are now in possession of Abbott's Opera House. The Boston Serenaders have been playing for a short season at the Theatre Royal.
