THE GOLDFIELDS.
« Darwin, — The report of the manager, dated the 30th instant, is to the effect that he resumed sinking the main shaft on Tuesday last, meeting with uo] obstacle in the shape of water, and there are three shifts of two men on each shift. The winze is being sunk altogether dry ; the lo;ie was broken down on Tuesday last, and showed gold as freely as before, the precious metal being visibly distributed through the qaarrz. It is about 2 feet wide, ana fmin the class of country would indicate that a heavy deposit should be found somewhere in the course of operations. The surface water is dammed back into the Cambria drive, and givcß no trouble. |BY TELEGRAPH.—OW.V CORRKSFOXDENTS. | Thames, Thursday evening. Sharemarkkt.—Bright Smile, sellers Is 6d ; Dart, sellers 5s 9d ; Deep .Level Cross, sellers 3s Id ; Imperial, 22s Gd, buyers 23s ; Caledonian, sellers 13s Hd. Calelioman.—The leader has been driven in ab-.iut ten feet. It is split up into stringers, but shows gold. Imi'biiul.—The lode, in the winze was brukeu down to-day. It is i:ow about 2 feet wide. The footwall is firm, hue the hauginiiwall is rather mullocky. It showed gold fairly. The crushing is shaping well. Deep Ltvi'.L Cross.—Tbe big pump has stopped for an overhaul, but will probably start again on Saturday. The crushing will be above the average. Coromandel, Thursday evening. Union Beach.—The manager reports a very nice reef in the rise on the V u uus reef. There is also a good reel in ' lace. He is driving on the same. The drive on the Black reef is also progressing favourably. United.—Have sunk 40 feet on Meredith's leader, and are taking out payable stuff. The leader is rather small, but shows signs of improvement. Just-in-Timr.— The manager is taking out payable stuff from the winze on No. 1 reef ; also getting a little gold in the stopes. Kapanga are getting very nice gold in the stopes. Some of it is very rich. . _Corby.— The manager reports getting a fair show of gold in the stopes at the low level. The reef in the main face looks splendid, and is likely to be on gold every foot. Tokatea.—The manager reports the face at No. 7 level exceedingly hand-crossed by seamb of flint. A little gold is showing in prospecting the stopes. Knox and party, tributera, are getting good stuff. Matawai are still getting good payable stuff from the hill face, and occasionally a good patch of specimens. They will have a large parcel for the battery as soon as tho road is ready. Homeward Bound are crushing a parcel from the big reef. It is showing well. They have also a small lot from the little reef, which is estimated to average 2ozs, or 3ozs, per ton.
