MR. MITCHELSON IN THE MAUKU DISTRICT.
The Hox. Mr. Mitoiielsox, Miuister of Public Works, paid a visit to this district on Tuesday last. He waß met at Pukekohe by Mr. E. Hamlin, M.H.R., and driven to Patumahoe, where a number of the settlers were waiting to roceive him. Mr. H. Crispe welcomed him to the district on behalf of the settlers, and stated that it was about the first time they had been given the opportunity of having an interview with a member of the Government, and thanked him for having shown them that consideration by coining and seeing what the district was, and also what its requirements were. The deputation then brought before the hon. gentleman Beveral matters of importance to the place, railway, roads, etc. Mr. Mituhelaon listened patiently to what was said, and took notes of it, stating that he would have the various matters lookod into as boou as possible. Regarding the proposed railway from the main line through Mauku to Waiukn, lie said that whatever promise his predecessor in office had made to Mr. Hamlin he would see faithfully carried out. He was then driven to the top of Patumahoe Hill, and took a general view of the surrounding country, and expressed himself as highly pleased with it and what he had seen on his way frp-ii Pukekohe. Having been thanked for bia visit, the party drove on to after which they returned to the Pukekohe station. There is little doubt his visit must result in good, as th'i Minister must see that taking it all through—Pukekohe, Mauku, and Waiuku—there is not a better extent of country south of Auckland, and it is one that is supporting a very laryc and industrious population. Anybody going through it must be struck by that at once.—[Own Correspondent.]
