ACCIDENT ON BOARD THE S.S. TARAWERA.
Shoetly after seven o'clock last evening a messenger arrived at Dr. Tennent's surgery and informed him that an accident had occurred on board the Union Steamship Company's Tarawcra, bound for Sydney. Dr. Xennent promptly responded to the call, proceeding in the cab which had been sent for him. On arrival on board he found that a steerage passenger, named M. White, en route for Sydney, had fallen down the forehold and disloc&ted his left elbow and broken his loft leg below the knee. and close to the ankle. Dr. Tennent at once placed the broken iimb in splints (which were supplied by the captain), and reduced the dislocation. As the captain declined to take che patient on to his destination, he was taken to the Hospital, having no friends in Auckland. His escape was almost miraculour. His fall was fully 20 feet in depth, bat ho seemed to suflcr a great deal from the shock, for on being removed on a grating from the ship to the cab ho moaned heavily. The grating was | placed in the cab, and accompanied by two of | the ship's company Mr. White was taken to the Hospital.
