HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Hospital Committee of Management was held yesterday afternoon. Present: — Messrs. Mackeehnie, Dando, Colonel Haultaio, Messrs, Bull, Kensington, and Peacock. Drs. Haines, Richardson, Hooper, and Bond, were also present.
Visiting Staii-.—Two applications were received from medical men for appointment to the medical staff.—The applicants were Dr«. McMullen and Knight.—lt was resolved to give public notice of the vacancy on the medical staff, so that all medical men might have, an opportunity of applying. Public notice of the vacancy has not up to the present been given.
Medical'Stodents.—lt was resolved to forward Dr. Bond's letter, re medical students, to the medical staff for consideration.
Di3infectin-g Chamber,—A letter waa received from Dr. Bond, recommending the construction of the disinfecting "chamber in connection with the Hospital building. Dr. Grabham, Inspector of Hospitals, had reported that £150 would be sufficient for tho purpose. Dr. Grabham having been communicated with on the subjecti the further consideration of the matter was postponed till the receipt of his reply.
Infirm Prisoner.—Dr. Philson forwarded a letter from Captain Hume, Inspector of Prisons, recommending that a prisoner named William Wells be admitted to the Old Men's Refuge. Wells was old and infirm,—Tho application was refused.
Washing.—Letters wore received from the Gaoler and Matron, reporting that the washing had'improved since the complaint of the committee.
Deunkenne?s.—lt was resolved to discharge a patient named Eastwood, who was reported for drunkenness. The question of discharging patients Wanford and Collins was referred to the House Committee.
Resignation of House Steward.—Mr. John Bryce forwarded his resignation as house steward of the Hospital. He regretted doing so,- after his long connection with the institution,— The resignation was accepted. —Mr. Bryco agreed to remain in office till his successor was appointed. It was resolved to advertise for applications for tha office. It was agreed to inform Government of Mr. Bryce's resignation, and inquire whether the Government intend to audit Mr. Bryce's books prior to his successor's appointment.
Patients' Contriebtioxs.—lt was resolved that Mr. Graham, relieving officer, be be supplied with printed formi, so that he might visit the Hospital to make inquiries as to the ability, or otherwise, of patients to pay.
