BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Tub ordinary meeting o£ the Board of Education was held yesterday. Present : Messra. liiishley (Chairman), Hobbs, Buckland, Groldie, Luke, and Clark.

Chairman's Rkport.—The Chairman reported as follows Mr. Boler has been sent to Beresford-street temporarily as suggested by committee. Mr. £L B. Wilson, probationer, has been sent to take temporary charge of Whatawhata school. Miss M. J. Albely, from Greerton, has been sent temporarily to Ponsonby school. Mr, Pooley having resigned, Mr. James Willis has been sent to Waikiekie in his stead. M.ahurangi Heads : Attention of committee has been called to the cleaning of School premises. Newton : Committee's attention has been called to cleaniug and repairs of East and West Schools. Okaihau : Chief Surveyor has been requested to report as to the proposed exchange of reeerve. Pakaru : Approved a week's extension of holidays. Tamahere; Arrangements have been made for sufvey of school site (five acres). Te Eiowbai : Information as to the number of children for proposed school has been received, and referred to Inspector for his report. Te Mata; Committee'have been requested to investigate complaints against teacher. • Training classes : Exemptions have been granted as follows ; —Miss Jerram, Wellealey-street School; Mrs. Simpson, Ponsonby ; Miss Rate Colabrook, Newmarket; Miss Revell, Tuakau j and Miss Shannon, Pokeno Valley ; till end of September. Michaelmas holidays have been advertised to take place during the last week in Laisuley, Chairman.

" Teachers and Public Bodies.—lt was resolved that the Secretary write to Henry Worthington, head-master of the Wejlealeyatreet East School, drawing his attention to the regulations, and asking him if he is the Henry Worthington elected a member of the Parnell Borough Council, and,, if ao, he be requested to resign.

Accounts. —The Secretary reported that the Board 'a funds Were low, —It was resolved to write to the E lucatiou Department, asking for a grant of £5000, on account of the Building Fund allotment. Tenders.—Three tenders were received for dwelling at Wainui, viz.—W. G. Smith, £450 ; Smith and Howe, £478 ; J. Duncan, £490. The estimate was £360. Fresh tenders are to be called in four weeks.

Ararimu and MaiSto.—The boundaries of this district are to be gazetted. Alexandra.-—Agreed that work in connection with teacher's dwelling be carried out.

Auckland Citv.—A letter was received from the committee asking that a school be established in Freeman's Bay, say Napierstreet. —Agreed that committee be referred to the previous resolution. •

Otara.—lt was agreed, on the motion of Mr. Lake, "That the five acres offered by Mr, Paton be purchased by the Board, and that plans and specifications be prepared for a new school and teacher's residence so soon as a subscription of £150 (exclusive of Paton's £25) be paid to the Board."

Girls' High School.—lt was resolved that application be made to the trustees to grant a lease of the Girls' High School building for three years, with option cf two years longer, at £300 a-year. . Board Building.—The lease of the Board building expiring this year, the Secretary was instructed to inquire whether more commodious and less expensive offices could be got elsewhere.

Bankrupt Teacher.—A letter was received from Mr. Bruford, stating that he had made arrangements to pay his creditors in full with interest.—lt was agreed, pn the motion of Mr. Goldig, that in view of the explanation made by" Mr. Bruford to. the effect that he had arranged to pay his creditors in full with interest, the Board, under the circumstances, will take no farther action in the case.

Drawing Master.— Tha resignation of Mr. Trevithick, drawing master, was accepted.—lt was agreed to advertise for a master to take hia place. Trailing Class.— Decision on the application of Clara Binney for exemption from attendance at the Saturday training class was deferred till next meeting, the Inspector in the meantime to make further inquiries in the matter.

Kaitaba,—Agreed,to grant £50 towards erection of a school at Kaitara.

KiniKinr.—The site for the school was fixed, and it was agreed that th« building be gone on With.

Mangawai, — Mr. Boldero made some general charges against the committee and the teacher. It waa resolved to inform Mr. Boldero that the Board were not prepared to interfere.

Nettstisad (Scotchman's Valley).—Application for school. The settlers hid subscribed £50, and offered site for the school.— Agreed that th«j district be proclaimed on conditions proposed by settlers being carried out.
