The Union OompinyV steamship Tarawera took her departure foi Melbourne via Southern ports at noun yesterday from the Railway ■Wharf. Notwithstanding the distance from the centre of business, there was a large number on the wharf to witness her departure. This m»y be accounted for principally from the fact of tho day being so fine, tLo.3 tempting many out who would not otherwise have gone. The steamer ■wae fairly patronised by passengers. The s.s. Penguin, with a cargo of coal, is due early this morning from Wbangarei. She will discharge her coal into the Union Company's halt. The barque Asterion ie now 90 days out from London, Hiirl the Auckland barge Lara, from the same port, u 88 duys at sea. Aβ both veaseis are bound to this port, considerable interest U attached to the passages of theee two vessulj. Tho Lara, although the smaller and con&equently, less powerful of the two, has many "friends who are inclined to stand by her, after the good work Bho did against the Aehmore on the homeward run, from which the Lara is now returning. Both vessele may be expected to arrive within the next fortnight. The Railway Wharf has, during the last week or eo, been exhibiting signs of usefulness. All the avaikble berths have been occupied daring the time named. For small draught-of-water vesnels, the wharf has proved itself very acceptable during tbo rush for berthing accommodation since the beginning of the present The s.s. Argyle, for Mangawai, took her departure yesteriay evening with passsengers and enrgo. The ecboonor Cygnet sailed for Tonga yesterday evening, with une passeDger and a full general cargo. Tbe barque Notero took her departure for WaDganui yesterday morning. At tho port named she will load timber for Sydney. As the barque ww being hauled out from the Railway Wharf, she backed into the stern of the s.s. Kotomabana, carrying away a portion of the latter vessel's rail. The barque Glance is now nearly a full ship, and the bending of Bails yesterday was a plain indication that Captain Le Boauff didaot anticipate a much lonporetayin our port. All accounts against tbe barque outwards must be rendered to the N,Z. Shipping Company tomorrow. The s.s. Wellington, from Tanranga, brings a cargo of 450 bucks maizo and a quautity of sundries. She returned again yesterday evening to the same port. Upon her return, on Saturday, ehe will be laid up to undergo repairs. Her place will be taken by the s.s. Macgregor, on Monday next, if sho should reach here in time from the West Coast.
