"CONDITIONAL IMMORTALITY" -A POLEMICAL DISCUSSION.
The .discussion was resumed yesterday evening, Mr, E. Carr in this cliair.. Notwithstanding that it was the fifth flight of the debate, there was no falling off in the hum- ; ber of the audience. Mr. Brown expounded more particular the meaning of " immortality" in his sense. There would be a kingdom of Christ for ever and ever—that kingdom would be here. The earth was God's footstool, and He would make " glorious " where He put Bis feet. God chasteneth whom Hβ lovetb. -i- the good j but Hβ punisheth the wicked. Those who now slept in the grave would come up for judgment at the The good wouW enjoy immortality, through the unsearchable riches of Christ • the wicked would experience a second death— they would he cast into a lake of fire, and destroyed for "everlasting." Mr. Hutspn reiterated hi* proposition that the immortality, referred to in Scripture was a part of the life which God had breathed into man— his creature. The passage* of the Bible which referred to the future state of man, confirmed this view. Those passages which related to. mao'a present existence and relations to the Deity could Only be consistently explained upon this view of the pontext where they were found." A vote of thaiikg was passed to the Chairman. The discussion closed at a quarter to ten p.m. To judge by the attitude of the audience towards the speakers, Mr. Brown appeared to have the larger measure of popularity. Mr. Hutson aleo. had many supporters. Each speaker was loudly applauded at the close of his address.
