In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Gladstone, replying to a question, stated that any further despatches that might be received from the colonies on the subject of New Guinea 'would receive due consideration at the hands of the Government. A special to the Press Association says : —Mr. Murray Smith, the AgentGeneral for Victoria, has communicated to Lord Derby, the Secretary for the Colonies, the address passed by both Houses of the Victorian Parliament on the D.nnexation question, and has urged compliance with the wishes of the colonies. Adelaide wheat remains at 465, and New Zealand at 42s to 45s per 4961b5., ex store. Australian tallow has further declined 6d to Is per cwt. Best beef is now quoted at 40s Gd, and best mutton at 41s Gd. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,710,000 quarters, a reduction of 60,000 quarters during the week. Best Sydney sun-dried copra has declined 10s per ton, and is now quoted at £19 10s. Best Australian leather is quoted at 10Jd. July 14. The market rate of discount has advanced to 3f, and is now J below the bank rate.
