[from our own correspondents.] Alexandra, Wednesday evening. The township to-day is quite lively with natives, eight large canoes, loaded with pigs and produce, having arrived from up country. Nothing is known hero regarding Tawhiao having stopped the survey ou the KawhiaRaglan road. Our Amateur Dramatic Club, which has been resuscitated, is making great preparations in the way of new scenery and frequent rehearsals, preparatory to a public appearance. The Rii:k Club nights are fully attended, Hamilton, Thursday. The first meeting and practice of the new Choral Society was held last night, when some three and twenty members were present. The rules of the old society were adopted, and it was resolved that the subscriptions of members shall be expended in music, to be the property of tho society. Wheeled traffic on the main road between Hamilton and Ohaupo has been stopped, during the construction of the culvert at Brown's Hill. The road itself, especially on the Ohaupo side of the racecouse flat is in a a very bad state. Traffic has been resumed over the Waitoa and other bridges on the Uamilton-Te Aroha road. Tamahere, Thursday. A concert in aid of the building fund of the now church is being arranged for the 18th iust. The native chief Rice has been dangerously ill, but is rt covering. Ngaruawahia, Thursday. The funeral of Mrs. Fitzpatrick, which took place to-day, was attended by a large number of settlers and others from all parts of the district.
An accident happened to Mr. Morley, of Waiuku, at Havelock Hill, while passing with a dray through ihia district. The dray and team and Mr. Mor ley were capsized into a large hole, and it was almost by a miracle that Mr. Morley extricated himself before the'dray and horses could fall upon him. One of the horses was slightly injured. What is the local Road Board about that these dangerous places are left uncared for? Cambridge, Thursday.
The clerk of the Waikato County Council refuses to hand over the full amount of the Cambridge publicans' license fees to the Cambridge Town Board until authorised to do ;o by the Council. At the meeting of the Town Board on Monday a plan of action will be atranged for their representatives in the County Council to take at its next meeting.
A special meeting of the Mutual Improvement Society was held on Tuesday night, when it was resolved to hold the meetings fortnightly instead of weekly. An interesting paper on " Holiday Rambles and Recollections " was read by Mr. F. J. Brooks, of the Bank of New Zealand. The meeting was well attended.
Nominations to fill the extroardinary vacancy in the Piako Council for the Taotaoroa riding will be received by the Returning Officer, Mr. J. Hunt, at Gorton, up to noon of Saturday next, and the poll (if necessary) will be taken on the 12th iost.
