At daylight yesterday morning ths signal of a ship outside Tiritiri was run up at the signalstation, North Shore, and it was nt once conjectured that the vessel would prove to be the JBast Lothian, then 104 days out from London. At about three o'clock in the afternoon the vessel came round the North Head, and it was at once seen that the supposition was correct. Owing to the light westerly wind prevailing, she was unable to reach tho powder-ground, and was, in consequence, compelled to bring up off Orabei Bay. Upon our reporter boarding the vessel he was most courteously received by Captain J. Carse, who did all in his power to supply him with the information desired. From him wo learn that the trip had been a most uneventful one, until reaching off the North Head, yesterday evening at 4 p.m., when one of tho passengers (Sirs. Burridgo) waß safely delivered of a daughter. The East Lothian is a fine powerful looking vessel, and though she and her master are strangers to this port, they aro well known in Sydney and other Australian ports. The ship will be visited by the Health Officer, and will drop up to her borth at the powder ground, to discharge her powder, today. Of the passage, Captain Carse reports : — Left London on the 19th March, i.ud had strong easterly winds down Channel, was off Beachy Head on the 20th, and had strong E. and N.E. winds tolat. 40' N, From thence light baffling winds prevailed. Madeira was passed to the eastward, the.ship going to within 100 miles of the African coast. Sighted Palma Island on the 3rd April, from which point strong N.E. winds were met with. Crossed the Equator on April 19th, in lat. 27* 35 W. f tho passage so ! far occupying 81 days. The S.E. trades were of little assistance to the vessel, beinglightaud variable ; lost the trades in lat. 16 S. The trades were succeeded.oy a sequence of light, baffling wind?, which prevailed to lat. 27 S. The meridian of tha Cape of Good Hope was passed on the 21st April, and on the day previous the wind (N.W.)increased in force, and blew with great violence. Running before wiud and sea being fraught with danger, the ship was hoveto under snug canvas for twenty-four hours. The eastings were ran down in lat. 40 for a time, but a lower parallel was sought, and the remainder of the eastings was made in lat. 39. Tasmania was roußded on the 20th June, and from there light and moderate W. and S.W. winds prevailed to the Three Kings on the morning of Saturday last, tho North Cape being rounded the same evening. Down tho coast westerly winds prevailed. Saw tho Mokohinou lighf, ou Sunday night, arriving a3 already named. The ship, upon discharge of her powder, will come up harbour and be berthed at the Queen-street Wharf, to put out the balance of her cargo. ARRIVAL OF TI3E R.M. S.S. CITY OF NEW YORK.

Tho R.M. b.b. City of New York arrived in harbour yesterday laoruing shortly after ten o'clock. From the report below it will be seen that the detention of the mail on this occasion was owing to the breaking of the ahsf t of the Atlantic steamer, which necessitated her return to Queenatown for repairs. Captain Cobb reports as follows :—The Pacific Mai! Steamship Company's steamer City of New York sailed , from San Francisco on June 10 at f.25 a.m., having; been detained first until Wednesday,. Arrived at Honolulu on June 17 at 1.10 p.m.; sailed the same day at 10.55; passed the Navigator Islands on the 25th ult.; crossed the 180 th meridian of longitude on the 30th: received Auckland pilot on board on July 2 at 8.30 a.m. Moderate trade winds and pleasant weather prevailed throughout the trip.
