AUCKLAND ROWING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of, the "Auckland Rowing Association was held last evening at the club room, Waitemata Hotel,-, the business being thc,;handing .over,.of..the prizes w;on at the regatta/of Saturday last to the' successful ■'competitors'.yiThere:.was a large attendance ,of the' members .of the association.. Mr. 'Malcolm Niccol, t|ie judge of the association, the l chair, and in presenting the pnzes.i; consisting of very handsome silver xupsiifor . the four-oared races and a chased silver jewelled case to the amateur scullers, made a few most appropriate remarks, and in ■ referring "to the success of the North Shore Club in obtaining four of the six events on the programme, paid them a well merited ''compliment upon their premier position, remarking that there was little doubt but that the success they had achieved was solely due to the energetic mannerin which they had gone in for the races, and the time given to practice.;;;'He wished no barm to the other two cliibsj .'.but hoped that the success of the -North Shore Club would stick to it. The recipients'were all loudly cheered as they stepped' forward ■ to receive their trophies. "Before' the . conclusion of the business Mr. Niccol again rose, and in a most flattering .speech rirferrcd to the success of the maiden 'regatta'of. the Rowing Association, remarking "that'jthe deserved the greatest fpraiseafor:.* the successful issue they had j.brouglit Saturday's regatta to/ 'i He wished the success in the future, believing they would provide a great want long felt in aquatic circles, and would materially increase the iutcrest in rowing. A most : pleasing feature, ho thought, of last Saturday's sports was the total absence of disputes of any kiu d. We wish the association every success in the future. Vcte3 of thanks were unanimously accorded to the officers of the club, and to this Northern Steamship Company for their liberality in placing the s.s. Wellington at the disposal of the association for the afternoon A vote o£ thanks to the Chairman brought to a close a most pleasant evening.
