Stone, Esq. 1 Secretary, pro tem.: J. C. Berger. The object of Company is to provide tonnage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our city may be a 8 muoh as possible carried in looally owned vessels, and the shipping business carried on by a purely LOCAL COMPANY. The rates of freights current in this colony compare mo6t favourably with those ruling in neighbouring colonies, and are as a role sufficiently remunerative to leave a good profit, trading hence either foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commercial importance of Auckland is a source of gratification, and the shipping trade, under skilful management and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we are at present not in absolutely direct communication. The object of this Company is to provide yestels to trade in tbe directions already opened, and others which may from time to time offer inducements. There is ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and with some of the larger centres of Continental European trade. Of course, the large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber will form an important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c. t being already established, co jld easily be continued with regularity, whilst tho Newcastle and Greyznouth coal trades should be also provided for. There is a vast field in prospective for a good trade with America, Mauritius, China, Manila, Calcutta, the Cape, Noumea, and numerous foreign ports, with some of which, even at the presont moment, a profitable direct trado is bt-ing carried on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishment. Tho Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vesselß, but will from time to time chaiter vessels when xequired, in the event of their own not being immediately available* Messrs. Stone Bros., who have for some time carried on a good shipping business, and who have now fairly started a new London line, possess tho nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessols and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650;, they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2042 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that tho business may be extended without delay, especially tho London and Amcricia branches. The services of Mr. C. B. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present under his control, who are experienced in this line of business, have been secured to take office under the new Company. It is further proposed that the working expenses should be conducted on strictly economical principles, the expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set down at £150,C00, but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not bo called up until vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at reasonable prices, until which time it is proposed to charter vessels as roquired to supplement the present fleet. It is proposed to invite oil Auckland business-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outside or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not fail to be a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Shareholders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of tho undertaking, tow appeal to the public to insure it by subscribing freely for Shares. LIST OF VESSELS. Tons Register. Ptone Bros* shows that 7 vessels of tho value of £25,000 yielded an average monthly profit of £530, oqual to £6360 per annum, exclusive of charge for Insurance on Hulls. These figures serve to show that with a arger fleet, oxtended business, and more capital, substantial dividends may confidently be anticipated. Educational. H.
