The effect of dredging in the port of Ly ttelton is thus stated : —ln 1867, a line drawn from the Officers Point breakwater to a point three chains seaward of Peacock's Wharf, gave an average depth of 9ft., and this state of things continued up till 1874, when the dredging commenced.
