RECEPTION OF SIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR.
His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Jervois, accompanied by Lady Jervois, and his suite will, it is anticipated, leave Wellington at ten o'clock tbiß morning for the Manukau, en route for Auckland, arriving at Onehunga early to-morrow (Wednesday) afternoon. The Premier (the Hon. i\ Whiiaker) will go out to Onehunga to receive the Vice-Regal party, and accompany His Excellency by special train to Auckland, arriving about halt-past four o'clock. Instead of the address of tbo Mayor and Council being presented at Government House on the following day as at first propoHod, it will now ba presented by His Worship the Mayor on behalf of the Council and the citizens of Auckland at the railivoy station, immediately on His Excellency's arrival. 'The Town Clerk, by direction of the Mayor, has communicated with th<i captain of H.I.M. Cnrola, inviting him and two of his senior officers, as well as the commander of H.I.M. nytene, to be present at the reception. A similar invitation has been l>iven to the foreign Consuls. Carriages have' been proviilt d for His Excolleney and suite, and for the Mayor and Councillors. At tho meeting of volunteer officers last night, it was agreed that the volunteers . should parade for a guard of honour at halfpast three o'clock on Wednesday afternoon at tho railway station. Major Withers stated that a district order would be given, and intimated that ho would wish to see a3 good a ; muster as possible. It is officially notified in our advertisement columns to-day that the Government House grounds will be closed to the public during the stay of His Excellency; also, another notification by Major Ecules, A.D.C., thatan undress l&vee will be held at Government House on Friday afternoon, the 6th inst., at two o'clock.
Nothing is yet known aa to the lengih of ; His Excellency's stay. A s Lady Jervois is ;in delicate health, it is probable Bho will pay ' a visit to tho Waiwera Hot Springs and to the Lako country. It had been suggested to the Mayor to proclaim a half-holiday on Wednesday. His Worship, however, thought that owing to the late hour at which His Excellency wonid arrive, half-past four p.m., that it was scarcely necessary, as m.rcantile establishments would then be about closing, and employers of labour would no doubt grant their men the hour or tvo necessary to enable them to witness the proceedings on the Governor's arrival. .
