Wf.lllington, Friday.—At the olVicial inquiry into the stiabiling of the barqtie Conferenco at Wellington on the 16th inst., the Court delivered the following judgment: — | The Court is of opinion that tht> accident was attributable to the vessel overrunning her distance while putting her round, caused by a change of wind from the north to north-Gaat,and to the vessel getting stern way on. At tho same time the Court is of opinion that the captain stood too long ou the starboard tack before goingr about. The Court also pointed out that big draught sailing ye?sejß Bhould be caut'ous in using tbo directions given in the Wellington Almanac for working into port ou the west side, and would caution the master to be more cautious in the future. The captain has to p*y costs, £5. SEAMEN'S WAGES. CHRI.STCHUisCH, Friday.- At a meeting of masters of British traders held at the Harbour Board Oiiice, LytteUon, sea:m?n\j wages were fixed at £0 a month, owing to the low rates of freight obtaining for home cargoes. THE BRITISH QUEKN. CHP-isiCRTiRCn, Fiiday.—The New Zealand Shipping Company have received a cablegram announcing the sailing of tho steamship British Queen, from Plymouth, on March iM, for Wellington and Lyttelton, with a large number of passengers. Tha nhip Waimate, from Lyttelton, re.tched London on the 27th of March ; all well.
