A good deal of attention was given to a proposal to institute a benefit section in connection with the juvenile branch of the order, and the feeling of the meeting appeared to be tbat it was the most important; business on the order paper. A committee was appointed and drew up an amended code of by-laws for the juvenile branch, including a scale of contributions and benefits, which, after careful consideration, was adopted by the meeting, subject to the approval of the Government Actuary. A proposal

that the tents should be allowed to send their surplus funds to the district council to be invested was struck one. Levies for the ensuing two yeam were iixed as lollows : — Coutiugent, lid ; benevolent, Id ; tent relief, : total, lla l.Jd, or 5d per quarter less than at present. A proposal to grant the District Secretary an honorarium of XlO 10s for extra clerical work was unanimously carried, though the D.S. objected to the vote, his objection being overruled. He stated that the amount would be placed by hiui as a donation to the fund for the celebration of the jubilee of the older in ISSS. A resolution interpreting some obscurity in the general laws in the use of the term "district council" was agreed to. It was resolved that 110 alteration be made in the laws themselves till the next general district meeting in 1535. A propjsal that an ollieial report of the proceedings be printed in pamphlet form evoked, some discussion, and it was ultimately decided not to do so, but merely to publish a report in the Temperance Herald, the official organ of the order. A proposal to give practical effect to the by-laws regulatiug the proposed widows and orphans fund, was postponed till the next general meeting. A proposal from a Good Templar lodge to join in a suggested public temperance meeting was not entertained, the greater number of delegates having made arrangements to leave at too early a date to be present.
