The s.s. Wairurapa passed the brig Yision ten miles to the southward of the East- Gape on Sunday last. The latter vessel desired to be reported. The B,p. ENGLISH SHIPPING. LauHCH.—The s.B. Tarawera was launohed on September 30 by Messrs. Denny and Brothers from Leven shipyaid, Dumbarton, a steel screw steamer of 1950 tons gross measurement, for the Union Steamship Couipany ; of New Zealand (Limited). On leaving the ways oho was named the Tarawera by Mrs. McCrae, of Glasgow. The dimensions of the Tarawera are— length between perpendiculars, 285 feet; breadth, moulded, 36 feet; depth, moulded, 25 feet. She has been constructed of •Siemens-Martin steel, under spooial survey of Lloyd's, *nd classed in their registry 100 AL, three-decked. She is built on the continuous celluhir-bottoui principle, with solid floors, a«d adapted for water ballast. Throughout the macbiuety space the structural system of deep plajfce frames and hole-side striogers has been adopted. She will have accommodation for 124 fivst-olass- passengors on 1 main and upper decks, and 80 second-class passengers on . main dcck. . The oflicerß and engineers, will bo, accommodated in the midship sido houses under bridge deck, and the firemen and crew will oocupy the forecastle. Tho vessel will be fitted by Messrs. Rates of Insurance. —To New Zealand ports, 17s 6d to 22s 6d per cent, f.p.a, by sail; 12a 6d to 20d by steam. Goods packed in tin to pay average 2s 6d extra. Tha barque Antares cleared outwards at London for this port on August 26 with a oargo of the declared ralue of £19.500. The barque Border Chief, from London for this port, cleared outwards on the,l2th September with a general cargo, the declared value of which is £35,800.

NEW YORK SHIPPING. The barque Irene, 481-tons, sailed from New Tork for this port direct on Sept. 26, with the following cargo. She comes consigned to Messrs. Arnold, Hiaes, and C 0.:—13,245 cases kerosene oil, 172 cases varnish, 6 cases machinery, 1 case paper, 10 cases organs, 637 oases chairs, 248 cases wooden ware, 1 case hoasehold goods, and 9 packages agricultural implements. The barque Olive Thurlow, 660 tons, was loading for Duuedin and Auckland, and was nearly a full ship when the mail left New York.
