THE KINGITE MEETING,
[PROM A COKIIESrONDENT.]
Alexandra, Tuesday. At present there are not more than a litt'.e over two hundred natives at Whatiwhatihou. A party of Kawhia natives arrived yesterday, but all the tribes from that district are not represented. Tawhiao and several of the leading chiefs are in camp, but Wahanui is at Kopua, where he will rem iin until the opening of the meeting. The Tauranga and other East Coast natives have not, up to the present moment, put in an appearance. The opinions of the residents here are vory conflicting as to the issue of the approaching visit of Mr. Bryce, but, as a matter of fact, nothing is known respecting the intention of the Kinuites with regard to the opening of the country, and as yet little or no demoustra tion is being made by them for the coming korero. Those of them who are residents at Whatiwhatihoe are principally engaged in the] peaceful occupation of tilling the soil preparatory to putting in their potato crops. It is now raining heavily.
