INTERCOLONIAL FOOTBALL MATCH.
TO-DAY. The football match between the New South Wales representatives and those of Auck. land takes place to-day on the Domain ground; and it is te be hoped that the weather, which was unfavourable yesterday, will have cleared up sufficiently to enable it to be successfully played, and permit of large numbers attending. All arrangements were completed at a meeting held at the Waitematu Hotel last night, it was decided that the " kick off" should be at 3 o'clock sharp. The Auckland team will be conveyed from the post-office in one of Mr. Crowther's drags at 2 p.m., while another will convey the New South Wales men from the Royal Mail Hotel at the same honr. The following are the names ox the Auckland representatives and the positions they will occupy in the match : —Full-bracks, Webster and Warbrick; three-quarter-back, llyan ; quarter-backs, Wood, Carter, and Whiteside ; and the remainder of the team, viz.. Henderson, Arneil, O'Connor, C. H. Croxton, T. Mack}-, J. Sims, T. Sibbin, Jewitt, and Speucer, will act as forwards. It Will be noticed that the name of Carter is substituted for that of Ring, on account of the latter not having put in an appearance by last night's traiu. It not been definitely ascertained whether Carter will play, but there is no doubt but that he will ultimately consent to fill the vacant position. The names of the New South Wales team are as follow: — Messrs. Thallon, Howard, Hawkins, Addison, Barry, Baylis, Flynn, Fligg, Mann, Raper, Graham. Richmond, Hill, Jennings, McClatchie, and Walker.
In the evening the visitors will be entertained to dinner at the Star Hotel, when it is expected His Worship the Mayor of Auckland will preside. On Sunday they will proceed to the Waiwera Hot Springs by the s.s. Rose Casey, on Monday the Stud Company's premises at Otahuhu will be visited, and on Wednesday morning the team take their departure for the South in the Union s.s. Company's steamer Hawea, which leaves Onehunga wharf at S a.m. on that day. It is probable that the team will pa=s through Auckland on their return journey, and should thai be the case we shall have the pleasure of witnessing another match on Monday, October 2nd. We may again mention that the colours of the visitors in the match to-day will be navy blue; those of the Auckland team, blue with white stripes.
Opinion is divided as regards the probable result of to-day's match, but the general idea is that our men will require to work hard to overcome their New South Wale 3 opponents. There is one thing in favour of the Auckland men, and that is the greater weight, but even that will be of little avail should the strangers prove more proficient iu passing and tackling. Our representatives are all men of determination and skill, and will fight to the last, so a3 to maintain the credit of Auckland in footballing. A good deal of betting is taking place on the event, as much as 2 and 3 to 1 having been laid on ' the ability of the New South Welshmen.
