LETTER FROM TEE CLAIMANT.

Ls a letter to the late Mr. Guilford Onslow, Orton, who remains at Portsmouth Convict Prison, writes :—" The people of no other country but this would ever have allowed a man to be plundered as I have been. Don t think me ungrateful. I know they have done all in their power for me so far a3 appeals go. and I am very thankful to them, and especially to those kind friends who have looked after my dear little ones. But still there's been a want of unity. My friends split up in factions, seeing which the Government took no notice of their appeals. Strong measures only will do any good. Therefore, without a few members will take my case up with a strong hand and are supported by my friends with perfect unity, it is -little use trying' any further. Therefore do, dear Onslow, write in my name to the Bristol. Nottingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Manchester, and other committees, a3kine them to act in concert with my friends at Southampton. I have not heard of my kind friends at Leicester and Manchester. I hope that fellow H. has not robbed me of their friendship. I should indeed be sorry to lose such friends ; so please remember me to them, with thanks for their past kindness. So long as Government can see there is no unity, so long will they treat their appeals with contempt; but if they see it is likely to affect the next election, they will then begin to take notice of it. The Liberals would not have gone in last time only for the obstinacy of the Conservatives in my case whilst in power, and; I sincerely hope they (my friends and supporters I mean) will make themselves felt by their voting, I mean at the nest election, which I hope is not far off."
