The signal-mac noticed the vessel at daylight bearing south on a ,wind, and further on lo«t sight of: her ; behind . Bangitoto for soma time. Towards : the afternoon the-vessel again made her appearance,. bearing straight down to the entrance of the ;harbour, and just before disk her numbers intimated that shd wa* the much overdue barque. THe ' wiad, which had been verylight thronghcai the afternoon, died- away in. the/evening, and. tte captain^finding it impoMib!e ; to . make the harbour dropped. anchor; a ahert distance beyond Bangitoto reef.
