T!ie annual meeting of the Epsom Mutual Improvement Society was held on Friday last, in the hall. In the absence of the chairman (Mr. Gardner), who was slightly indisposed, Mr. J. P. Daviea was voted to the chair. The report of the last year's transactions was read, and showed a very encouraging degree of success. The balancesheet showed an improvement in tho financial position of the society as compared with last year. The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year was next proceeded with, with the -following reaultj: —Chairman, Mr. Gardner (re-elected) ; vicechairman, Mr. J. P. Da vies; secretary, Mr'. John L. Cochrane ; committee—Messrs. Trollope, J. H, Neal, and Edward Neal. Mr. J. P. Davies was re-elected librarian. It was resolved to at once call for tenders for the removal of the chapel (generously tiven by 'Mr. Gardner for the purpose), to be re-rected at the rear of tho halloas a reading-room. During last week £15 10s was collected in the district in aid of the general library fund. \Ve are requested to direct attention to the sale by Mr. G. Binney, to-day at noon, or the last o? tho allotment's tor lease In tlio Improvement Commissioners' trust, comprising 12 allotments in Welles-ley-street East anil Eutlmd-etrect. Eligible business sites are getting now almost unprocurable, and an opportunity occurs to-day which cannot occur a sain.
