The Northern Boot Manufacturing Com- ] pahy have, -we learn, purchased a valuable block of land above Glceson's Hotel, Hobsonstreot, having a frontage to that street and also to Customhouse-street We3t, with the intention of putting up a new three-storey manufactory thereon, the premisea in Wynd-liam-street proving too limited for the company's largely-increasing business. The new buildings of the Onehunga Sawmills (lately destroyed by fire) are now completed, and the greater part of the machinery has been erected. The balance of it will shortly be turned out by Messrs. Price, Brothers, who have the contract for the machinery, and it is expected by Mr. Roe that the mill will get fairly to work early in next month. The report of the delegates and the balancesheet In connection with the recent eighthours', demonstration have been issued by Mr. Gr W Hislop (chairman) and Mr. Thomas Tudehope (secretary). The report refers to the success of'the' demonstration, aad to the support given to the movement by emplovers, with few exceptious. It places en'record the names . of the gentlemen, M;H;B.'s, citizens, merchants, and others assisted. It ends by rscommending that the : next demonstration be held earliei in/tho year, and that the societies and trades be requested to appoint their delegates in September.
