Registrar of Births, ftc, (also Vaccimtion Inspector, paid by fees), £325; cade;, £40; lunatic asylum, increased £570, diitributed over various expenses; the Readout Magistrates at Mercer and Whangard, each increased £50 ; small increase in sorro postal and telegraphic salaries; convejance of inland mails, increased £250; salary of tho Collector of Customs, iicreased £50, and other small increase in the Customs; additional clerk h the stamps at £90; salaries in the Howistrcct Industrial School set down at £30Cj; Kohimarama, £550 : rent, insurance, &o, for tho latter, £140 ; Auckland University College, £3000; Girls' High School, £100(; liabilities of Training School, Kohimarami, £500 ; Native Agent, Auckland, Waikab, reduced £65 ; expenses of the removal of tie head office of tho Native Land Court :o Wellington, £500 ; repairs to Governmeit House, £200; repairing roads, Aucklanl, £1564 ; one drill instructor, £110; laid transfer, Auckland office, £50. These ire the principal changes that I can find, aid they a.re, as will be seen, very triflingin amount. GENERAL ESTIMATES FOR 1882-SJ. The following are the general estimates ;or tho year ISB2-3 : —Receipts : Custons, £1,500,000; stamps, £190,000; beer duiy,. £60,000; property tax, £150,000; railwiy, £940,000 ; postal, £160,000 ; telegraplic, £55,000 ; judicial, £42,000 ; land transfer and deeds registry, £42,000 ; registration ind other fees, £36,000; marine, £15,000; niscellaneous, £45,000 ; depasturing licenies, rents, &c, £128,500; credit balance on the 31st March, £203,683 : total, £3,597,183. Expenditure : Ordinary revenue accouit, permanent appropriations, £1,627,512, viz., civil list, £29,740 ; intorcst and sinkng fund, £1,554,848; under special Acts £42,0(4. Annual appropriations £1,851,127, viz., Legislature, £39,748 ; Colonial Secretary's 'Department, £188,301; Treasury, £40,2/2; post and telegraphs, £237,341 ; Custons, £75.245 ; stamps, £24,385 ; education, £255,970; native affairs, £21,763; mims, £26,487 ; public works, £583,957 ; deferbe, £214,000 : total, £3,478,739. Land Fund Account: Receipts from hnd sales, £354,000; credit balance 31st Match, £11,360 : total, £365,360. Expenditure, permanent appropriations, under Bpecial A<ts, £41,500; annual appropriations, Ministers of Lands and Mines, £153,810 : total, £195,310 ; also for services chargeable as follows :—On tho public trust office expeises account, £2SOO ; on the native reserves account, £1273 ; on tho Government Insurance account, £25,410. DEPARTMENTAL ESTIMATES. The departmental estimates include the following alterations : Rewards for seizures and conviction under the Customs Act, increased £200; military pensions and allowances, increased £500; civil service pensions and gratuities, increased by £1000 ; military pensions and allowances, decreased £300; Supreme Court Judges superannuation, decreased £500; Ellesmcro, etc., trust under the Railways Construction Act, IS7B, increased £550 ; rewards, convictions, etc., under the Beer Duty Act, £50 ; preparing jury list, increased £50. Legislative Council : Chairman of Committees, increase £99 ; clerk, increase £52; clerk assistant, increase £63; second ditto, increase £30; interpreter, increase £30 ; messenger, increase £14 ; total increase for Legislative Council, £259. House of Representatives : Chairman of public petitions and native affairs committee, each £100 (last year nil) ; no other increases. General Legislative, binding and printing, decrease, £100; night watchman, increase, £10. [The following items among the details arc worthy of note :—Expenses of West Coast Royal ' Commission, £4000; bonuses of encouragement of local industries, £1000 ; expenses connected with observations of Transit of Venus, £500 ; land for lunatic asylums, Auckland, £600; purchase of laud adjoining Ministerial residence, Tinakoriroad, Wellington, £1000; repairs to Parliamentary Buildings, £2500. The local details comprise very few changes, and these mostly of a very small extent, as may lie seen from the close similarity between this year's estimates and last year's votes.
