The discussion on the West Coast Peace Preservation Bill was the principal topic discussed in Parliament yesterday. The debate is being carried on apparently after all general interest in it has ceased. The opinions of members on the subject appear to be in no state of doubt, but at an early hour this moraine; Major Te Wheoro was talking on the subject. There seems to be a strong desire by some of the Opposition to get Te Whiti to the bar of the House, but the Government stated that, from evidence in their possession, they were aware that Wi Parata had no authority to petition the House, or to take any other step on behalf of Te Whiti. Mr. Shcehan has given notice of his intention to take steps to nationalise the education reserves of the colony, so that the revenues derived from them shall go into a common fund for the support of the present system of education. In reply to Mr. Sheehan it was stated that the Thames-Kopu Railwav was to he proceeded with, the difficulties which had hitherto stood in the way of progress being now removed. Our correspondent at Wellington intimates that Mr. Moss is likely to make some opposition to the Auckland Harbour Board Bill, but this may prove only to be a rumour. It is also stated that the Auckland University Bill is likely to meet with opposition from some Auckland members, but it is probable that nothing in this direction is seriously intended.
