POLICE COURT.-Monday.

[Before J. E. llacdonild, Esij., K.M.J Droxkenxess.—Nine persons were mulcted in the usual penalties for ordinary offences. Bridget Harrison, for being druuk and disorderly, was fined 20a and 5s for a cart, with the alternative of eight days' imprisonment, and John Thackabery, tor habitual drunkenness, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, with hard labour. Robbery with Violence.—John Murphy and George Howard were charged with. violently stealing from the person of one Henry Smith, the sum of £6 ss, consisting of five £1 notes, one half-sovereign and 15s in silver, on the 19th instant. Sergeant Gamble stated the facts of the case, as already published in yesterday's issue, and / asked for a remand until next day. The remand was granted. liAUCEKY fkom a Dwellisg.—Margaret Phillips alias Mary Watt was charged with feloniously stealing from the dwelling-house of George Fred. Brimblecombe one cold watch, one gold chain, aud a piece of silk, valued in all at £9, on or about the 24th October, 18S1. Sergeant Gamble asked for a further remand until Tuesday, which was granted. Bail was allowed iu her own bonds of £50, and two sureties of £25 each. Assault.—Charles "Webster alias Driscoll was charged with assaulting William Allen, by striking him on the face with a glass Wr.lr.. The <>asp, harl Jiefln .lip.forp the Court previously, and the deiendant having uuw paid the costs, was discharged with a caution. Obstructixg the Footpath.—The charge against Robert Wise ot obstructing the footpath iu Karangahape Road, by riding a bicycle on it, which had been adjourned from Saturday, was again called; and Mr. E. Isaacs, J.l'., took his seat on the Bench. Sergeant Gamble said he would prefer having a decision, so that the City Council might be able to deal with the matter. Constable Clarke proved the fact that defendant was riding a bycicle ou the footpath. He was going at a good speed, aud a good many women and children had difficulty in getting out of his way. The Resident Magistrate said Mr. Isaacs agreed with him that it did not come under the by-law, but they were quite clear that if it was not an offence it ought to be made one very soon.
