During the visit which he paid to the Berlin Academy to-day, the Emperor slipped as he was descending the staircase, and fell heavily. NORTH BORNEO TRADING COMPANY. London, March 18. The House of Commons has passed a resolution approving of the charter granted by the Government to the North Borneo Trading Company. TERRIBLE FLOOD IN AMERICA. New York, March 18. The floods in the Mississippi river and its tributaries continue, and an enormous extent of country is inundated. Further serious destruction has resulted to life and property, and it is estirnatocl that fully 55,000 persons have been rendered homeless and destitute. AUSTRIA AND ITALY FRATERNISING. Vienna, March 18. It is announced that the Emperor and Empress of Austria will proceed to Turin at Easter on a visit to the King of Italy. DESTRUCTIVE FLOODS IN BRAZIL. Rio de Jaxeiuo, March 18, Disastrous floods have been experienced in this province. Owing to the overflow of the Paraiba River, a large tract of country is under water, and three towns have been almost completely swept away. Many persons have been drowned, and serious loss of property has been caused by the floods.

New Zealand securities : —The 5 per cent. 10-40 loan has advanced to 104; the 5 per cent. 1889 loan remains at 104-J ; the 4-J per cent. 1879-1904 loan has advanced to 103. Australian tallow and lireadstuffs are unchanged. LONDON WOOL MARKET. Loxdos, March 18. 10,600 bales were offered at to-day's wool auction, and fair demand was experienced.
