ASSESSMENT COURTS.

EDEN TERRACE. Tub Assessment Court for the above district was held yesterday forenoon, at Eden Hall. Mr. 15. Maclean presided as Judge ; Mr. I'aton, secretary to the Highway Beard, represented that body, and Mr. Heighway, valuer, was also present. There were but few appeals. Mr. Bailey objected to the assessment of £-4'2 for his property, owing to the most valuable portion of it having been disposed of, and desired a reduction to .€3O, which was agreed to by the Board. Mr. Shield's property was also reduced, by consent, from £22. Matthews' ropewalk was increased from £1G to £00, with consent of lessee, Mr. I'aton. GRAFTON ROAD. The Assessment Court for this district was also presided over by Mr. B. Maclean, and was held yesterday, in the Wesley an Schoolroom, Grafton-road. Mr. Alfred Asliton represented the Board, and Mr. H. Ashtor., valuer, was also present. There were a number of objections. The valuations of Mr. Connor's properties, at £10 and £12 respectively, were sustained. Messrs. \V. E. Outlnvaite, \V. Coleman, and T. H. McLachlan, trustees under the marriage settlement of J. B. Abraham, London, barrister, objected on the ground that the name of their tenant should be placed on the valuation list instead of their own names for i the property in Grafton Road, known as Abraham's. Mr. A. Ash ton appeared for the Board ; Messrs. Outhwaite and Coleman appeared in person. The Court, after hearing Mr. Ashton for the Board, and Mr. Coleman in support of the objection, decided that the objection musj; be sustained. Costs were given against the Board, £1 lis. The following reductions were made by consent James Downey, from £36 to £30 ; Mulholland, from £40 to £35; Robert Keys, from

£40 to £30 ; W. H. Payne, from £28 to £26; C. S. George, from £60 to £4.5. The total reductions allowed amounted to £39, and the present rateable value of property in the district is £11,166.
