DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
[BY TELEORAI'H.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Blksjiki.m, Monday. On Saturday last the house and outbuildiugs occupied by Mr. Atwood, Amersfoot, were totally destroyed by lire. The fire originated by a spark from the chimney falling on to a large coating of decayed leaves lying on the roof. The tire was first discovered by Mrs. Atwood, who was alone with her children in the house. She tried to run upstairs to get £3(j in cash in a drawer, but was driven back by the flames, and was only able to save her children and get out of the building. Mr. Atwood being totally uninsured, loses everything, and not only all his furniture and effects, but also a lot of belting and piping for threshing machines, besides other gear. Mr. Atwood fortunately succeeded in saving the entire horse from the stable, which was in flames. Only last week Mr. Atwood intended insuring his property, and was actually on his way to do so when he was met by a friend and prevented from executing his purpose.
