GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
A meeting of the Grammar School Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon in the Ministers'. room, Post-office Buildings. Present : Sir M. G. O'Rorke (in the chair), Judge Peuton, Messrs. C. K. Tyler, T. Peacock, aud Rev. C. M. Nelson. Minutes.—The minutes of the last meetrnad and confirmed. Acting Head-mas ;i.H. —uu one muuun ui Judge Fenton, seconded and supported by Sir It. M. O'Rorke, the following resolution, was carried :—"The Board desires to ex« press to Mr. Slowman their perfect satisfaction witll his conduct of the school during the time that lie had been acting headmaster."
Endowments. —On the motion of Judge Fenton, it was agreed, " That the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. Peacock, and Mr. Tole be authorised to act as a deputation to wait on Ministers with reference to endowments."
Dumb-bells.—lt was agreed, "That the application for duinb-bells—£6 Gs Sd —be sanctioned, on the understanding expressed in the head-master's letter, that the exercises with them be undei proper supervision."
Chemicals and Stamps.—On the motion of Mr. Tyler, an application from the headmaster for authority to procure chemicals and apparatus, and postage stamps, was granted. Boarding Establishment.—A letter was received from Mr. Dargaville, in reference to the boarding establishment. He hoped the Board would defer coming to a final decision on this matter, until they should have obtained an opportunity of conferring on the subject with some of the members oE the Senate of the University now in Auckland, some of which had not only a colonial, or English, but a world-wide experience of such matters.—lt was agreed •' That Dr. Hector, Professors Sale, Shand, and Brown, be respectfully invited to attend a meeting of the Board next day at 4 o'clock in reference to this matter."
Terms.—The following resolutions were agreed to, on the motion of Mr. Tyler:— 1. "That the year be divided into three school terms —the first to commence the first Monday after January 23rd, and end the first Friday after April '23rd; the second term to commence the first Monday after May lfjth, and end the first Friday after August lGth; and the third term to commence the first J [on day after September 10th, and end the first Friday after December 10th." 2. "That the annual school examination and distribution of prizes take place towards the end of the second term."
Prizes.—On the motion of the Chairman, it "was agreed, "That Messrs. Tyler, Peacock, Clark, and the Rev. Mr. Nelson be a committee to select the prizes this year."— Judge Fenton moved, as an amendment, "That the committee of last year be reappointed," but the amendment was lost* Head-master's Report.—A report from the head-master was received, and will be circulated amongst the members of the Board for perusal.
