DRUNK ON THE TRAIN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—This morning I had occasion to visit our (Tuakau) railway station, where I saw a woman, a stranger, who seemed somewhat the worse for strong drink. On inquiry, I learned that she was bound for Hamilton, but put out of the train here, I understood, . for being drunk. Be that as it may, it is rather hard upon the poor creature, who is probably among strangers, without friends, and no meaus of resumiug her journey before Monday. Doubtless she deserves to suffer, but why not, if troublesome put her in the guard's van, take her on to her destination, and there take measures to punish her ? or leave her at some station where there is a constable and lock-up, and not at a quiet, well-ordered place like Tuakau, where such a sad spectacle as a drunken woman among its inhabitants is seldom or never seen. I do not blame the railway servants, as most probably they have their instructions in all such cases, but I do hope such an infliction may not be imposed upon us again.—l am, &c., A. B. Tuakau, February 25.
