Kaisgakoa, February 10. The Maria Virginia, from Oallao, a schooner of 300 tons, put into Waitangi Bay on the 31st January, iu distress. Shs was reported by the caniaiu as being uuseaworthy. She has a of sugar and tobacco on board. Yv'aitauci "Bay on the chart is marked as beius dangerous in westerly weather. She has "already lost one anchor. The captain and supercargo called on Mr. Ritchie, the owner of the Island Lily, which ship is_ now lyin<* in Kaingaroa harbour, who offered his captain and his ship to reuder him any assistance. This was, however, declined. It is now blowing furiously from the westward, and it is feared that the ship and valuable cir.'o will go ou the rocks. She is insured in a Chilian office, and her cargo is consigned to Messrs. Cunningham ami Co., New Zealand. It is much to be regretted that the duties of the Resident Magistrate (who is now in New Zealand) should have devolved upon the district constable, and that the post of Collector of Customs should not have been placed iu tome other hands. February 11. The annual reg-.iiu of the Kaingaroa Model Yacht Boatir-.; 'Jlr.btook place; on the •26th February, at Pa: urcKi Lake. The day being fine, a large -v.iber of spectators assembled. There we;-' three prizes. First prize silver watch, vciiwd a,t £0 10s; second prize, £3 ; third prize, £2. There were fifteen entries, and the following was the order in which they arrived :—lsland Lily, Dr. Cooper, Ist; Rangatiki, Mr. Anderson, 2nd ; Metarakau, Mr. Anderson, 3rd ; Diving Bell, Mr. Le Nouze, 0.
