THE GOLDFIELDS.
The following mine managers' reports have been received :— Old Calkdosiak.— There is very little change in the stopes on So. 1 reef. The quartz is still lengthen, iug westward. Colours of gold are seen every diy, tions of the reef. TOlbs. of specimens came to hand thia week from all portions of the stope. I think, if anything, they are better than the last. Have about 30 loads to grass. Shall start crushing on Monday morning next. lam still stripping the No 2 reef in Captain Kichards' rise. The hangingwall is full of reins running in every direction, and. being difficult to break, it will take longer to strip the reef than I anticipated at first. There are only two men working, and it will take them nearly all next week before breaking the reef will cimmence.—T. B. Hicks. iH-rasiti Hill Lnitkd.—Junction '. I have liad Mi men driving on the lode at the tunnel level in order to open up and prove the lode towards the Ion? drive. The lode is rather small on the level on account of the tight country wa are going through but ai our stopes extend I expect a marked improvement upwards, considering the prospects w« obtained in sinking the winze. Kelly's : Driving ii still being carried on, and the lode has shown a marked improvement during the last few days. Colours of Sold have been seen in breaking down, and 1 expect to meet with something better as we advance. Youn? American : Stoping is still being carried on in this quarter, and the leader, although still small, is improving upwards, and a few stones carrying gold were obtained to-day. Albion crosscut : The contractors have been engaged part of the week pnttin" in ilr-boxes, as the air -was getting very light.
