POLICE COURT.—Fhiday.

SUPREME COURT.—Judges' Chambers. Friday. [Before Mr. Justice Oilließ.] His Honor sat to-day iu chambers, and transacted the following business :— Prob ite and AuMisrsTßiTios".—ln the estate of Francis Salter, deceased, Mr. T. Cooper applied that the order for letters of administration should be renewed. Granted. In re James Lochead, deceased, Mr. T. Cooper applied for an order to register copy of will. Order made accordingly.—Probate was granted of the will of the late Mrs. Anne Catherine Wynyard, on the motion of Mr. James Russell.—ln the estate of William Ivcan, Mr. Russell applied for and obtained ail order to register letters of administration. —In the estate of Samuel Thornally, deceased, Mr. Dufaur moved that the trustee be appointed to receive and give discharge for Government insurance money to infant children. Order made in terms of application.—Probate was granted of the will of William Wood Cardno.—ln the matter of James Bash ford Patterson, order for probate was renewed.

Porter and Another v. Jagger and Otii Kits. —Mr. S. Hesketh moved that issues be settled.—Mr. Cooper moved for leave to amend pleas generally. Leave given to amend within one day ; undertaking to go to trial if necessary at the ensuing civil sittings. Compensation. —In the following cases His Honor was asked to fix a day for trial.—By Mr. James Russell: In the eases of Marsh Brown, Kawiti, for land taken by the Kawakawa railway. 2. J. R. Triphook, ditto, ditto. 3. J. R. Triphook and J. llryers.—By Mr. Tyler, in the cases of (1), Hohepa Whatonga ; (2), Tantari ; (3), Tamati Pukututu, on ac. count of land taken for the same line.—His Honor fixed the 19th of January and follow J ing days, as might be agreed on, for hearing the above claims. Nathan and Co. v. Havener.—Mr. S 1 Hesketh moved for a writ of arrest against the master of the Beatrice Havener, on the ground that he was abont to leave the jurisdiction of the Court. The proceeding was taken under the Abolition of Imprisonment for Debt Act. His Honor was of opinion that the affidavits upon which the Court was asked to grant the writ did not show that application was made to the debtor for security, or that any measures were taken which the plaintiff might have taken to obtain security, before application was made for this writ. Ordered that the matter stand over for the present.

M.] I)R rx k kxx kss. —Two persons were punished for this offence. \ acraxcy.—Francis Small was charged with having been found by night without lawful excuse in a stable in Hobson-atreet, the property of Francis McCormick. The defendant, a lad of about 16 years of age, pleaded guilty. Mr. Pardy asked to have the case adjourned till next (Uy, until the police found who the other boys were who were with him. Remand granted. Wifk-beattn'c..—Andrew Kirkwood, on warrant, was charged with assaulting his wife, by striking her repeatedly on the. faco with his clenched fist. The defendant, au old man, pleaded not guilty- Defendant wa3 bound over to keep the peaco for three months, in his own bond ot £-0, and a surety to a like amount. Destitctk Childrkx. —Sarah Ann White was stated to be of sufficient ability to contribute to the support of her grand-children. The evidence had been taken on a previous i sitting when His Worship postponed his decision. Mr. Browning appeared for tho defendant.
