DEPUTATION TO HON. F. WHITAKER.

Frederick W'liitaker this morning anent the Thames- Waikato railway, t!ie purchase of the freehold of the goldlields, and mining for minerals other than gold. The deputation wan introduced by Mr. J. Sheehan. Tlie railway matter Mr. W'liitaker .said was out of his department, but he would inspect the proposed route at Shortland, and, if .satisfied that 110 local impediment was in the way, would urge the eomple-iou of the Kopu section. The freehold of the Mr. W'liitaker understood VMS bting acquired. The purchase of lands from the natives was always a matter of time, but if it could be shown that they were desirous of selling, he -would do all he could to further the purchase.
