It is announced that Sir George Bramwell, who resigned the position of Lord Justice of Appeal in September last, has been raised to the peerage, THE STATE OF IP, ELAND. London, December 18. The Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, made a speech to-day at Burnley, in Lancashire, in the course of ■which he stated that although the Leaguers were continuing a guerilla warfare in Ireland, there were hopeful signs that the agitation in the country ivas gradually diminishing. Among the chief of these was the fact of the increasing tendency which has of late been shown on the parfc of juries to convict for agrarian offences. A FROZEN MEAT CARGO. Alexandria, December 18. The steamship Europa, from Australia for London, with a cargo of frozen meat, has passed through the Canal. Her cargo is reported to be in perfect condition. LONDON MARKETS. London, December 1C Consols remain at 99.V ; market rate of discount has been raised to 5§ • the bank rate reniains at 5 per cent.; New Zealand securities are firm at last quotations. The market for colonial breadstuffs is quiet but steady. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 56s : New Zealand ditto, 525; Adelaide flour, ex store, 41s 6d. Total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom, 2,500,000 quarters. Australian tallow: Firm at 39s Gd for best beef, and 44s Gd for best mutton.
