A UCKLAND EAST ELECTION. I beg to return my thanks to the three hundred and fifteen electors who this day recorded their votes in my favour, and at the same time to state that although I have lost tho clec'.ion I do not consider tho result a defeat but rather a great moral victory. One of my objects in contesting this election was to show to New Zealand that Creyism, even in Auckland, if not dead, was dying, and I hold that the three hundred and fifteen have proved by their votes that Greyism is dying. Three years ajo no man would have attempted to contest an Auckland seat with Sir George Grey, whereas now he has only won by p. small majority, and but for the disfianchisement of tho leaseholders, the majority, in my opinion, would have been against him. I am, therefore, although in a sense defeated, yet not cast down. J. M. CLARK. Auckland, December 9. TI D E S COUNTY. WIIAU RIDING.
