WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Hamilton - , FrMay. Some months ago when the Kirikirirca Highway Board let certain contracts, several tenderers expressed dissatisfaction at the indefinite information given, a peg at each end of a cutting simply being put in; and from this meagre information a contractor had to find his quantities. It is again complained of that such is the case with certain works which have been lately ten* dered for and let 011 the Hokonui road.
Our enterprising townsman, Mr. Isaac Coates, with the object of meeting the requirements of the Waikato district, has imparted additional steam machinery for the reaping, binding, and thrashing of grain. I* is satisfactory to find that while our farmers generally are this year going in far mere largely than usual for grain producing, Mr. Coates is ready and able to meet them, bemj prepared to contract for cutting, binding, stacking, or thrashing the complete crop, a great relief to settlers who have hitherto field back from the growth of grain crops oa account of the labour difficulty at harvest. Ngarcawahia, Friday. Capt. Steele of Hamilton has heroine the purchaser of Mr. L. 15. Harris's farm, half-way between here and Hamilton, consisting of between 800 and 900 au'res fenced in and partly cultivated. It , 13 Capt. Steele's intention to put the fences, land, buildings, &c., iu good order, and having made considerable improvements, p Q * it in the market in suitable sized farms for small capitalists, and situated with a market town on either hand only between four and five miles distant, it will doubtless prove 3 satisfactory speculation to all concerned. The farm which Mr. K. Hill will otier by auction on Monday next at Hamilton, is 1 3 thi3 neighbourhood, but nearer to Hamilton, and consists of 350 acres, much of winch pro* duced first-rate crops of grain and roots whcS occupied some few years ago by it? owner, before domestic illness necessitated his retiring ; in fact, along the whole line of roai between the two townships the land is™ really excellent quality, and far more sM»j able for settlement than much higher-priced land that is more eagerly competed for, it possesses the extra advantages of a road to a double market and railway, river communication also.
