SUPREME COURT.—Judge's Chambers. His Honor Sir. Justicc Gillies.] Tiie weekly sitting in Chambers were held yesterday. There was a large number of formal applications disposed'of in relation to testamentary and trust estates. .Judgment.—lie Harker v. Beale. This was an application by Mr. E. Cooper on the part of the plaintiff that judgment might be entered upon default of plea, and that the time and place might be appointed for a jury to assess the damage sustained by the plaintiff, and the mesne profits due to him. In the case of the National Hank v. Claude, on the motion of Mr. Edwin Hesketli for the plaintiff, judgment was entered up in default of ploa. It may be desirable to inform the gentlemen of the legal profession that the business set down for hearing on Wednesday last in banco will be taken by His Honor on Saturday (this day). POLICE COURT.—FRIDAY. [Before J, E, Taacdonald, Esq., 11. IF.] Drunkenness.—Three persons were punished for this offence. Larceny.—John McGregor was brought up in custody on a charge of stealing a swag eontainiri*g blankets, clothing, etc., .valued at £5, the property of Denis Gleeson. He was also charged with stealing a second swag valued at £5, the property of Thomas Purcell. He pleaded not guilty. Mr. Pardy said the police were not prepared to go on with the case, as the prosecutors were not prepared to go on with it, so he would ask permission to withdraw the two charges. The prisoner was then discharged. Assault.—William Webber was charged with assaulting his wife, but with the permission of the Magistrate the case was withdrawn. The Wade Smugglers.—Maurice Kelly, Thomas Kelly, William Wilson, Ernest Frost, James Frost, William Morton, Nicholas Casey, and Robert Wilson, surrendered to their bail, all being charged with conspiring to commit perjury. William Wilson and William Morton on two charges of perjury, and Maurice Kelly on a charge of inciting to arson. Mr. Williamson, Crown Solicitor, appeared for the prosecution. Mr. Laishley for the accused Casey, the two Frosts, and Morton. Mr. Tyler, who was to represent the other accused, was not able to be present. Mr. Laishley :isked for a further remand till Friday. Ee further asked that the bail might be enlarged, and that the bonds should be so made as to prevent the necessity for the bondsmen appearing and entering into fresli recognisances, they should be bound for the principals to appear from time to time, until they were either discharged or committed for trial. The bonds were to be subject to the approval of the Crown Prosecutor. The case was then adjourned for a further period of eight days, on the understanding that a further adjournment would then be asked. The bail was enlarged for eight days ; the other form of bond to be drafted and approved during the day. [Before E. C. Barstow, Esq., R.M.] Affiliation Case. —Robert James, on remand, was charged with failing to obey an order of the Court to pay towards the a suj> port of his illegitimate child. This. eSsfi? been remanded for a give the defendant an opportunity of'making some arrangement. Mr. Browning appeared for the defendant, and stated that negotiations were pending for a settlement, and applied for a further adjournment for a week. His Worship granted the adjournment until Tuesday.
