THE DOCK AND THE RECLAMATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —1 notice in the Parliamentary report of yesterday's issue that Mr. Hall, in replying to Mr. Hurst, relative to the dock, stated that had Auckland a reserve similar to Port Chalmers the Government would consider the advisability of handing it over to the Harbour Board. Now, Sir, allow mo to suggest that Queen-street people be satisfied with tbe railway station coming to the old Gore-street jetty, and let the Government hand over the balance of the reclamation between Queen-street and Gore-street as a reserve, which would yield a rental of about £4000 a-year, which could be devoted to dock purposes or to the proposed bridge connecting istokes' Point with Auckland, either of which works would do a great deal more for Auckland than bringing the railway station 250 feet nearer Queen-street. Gorestreet would then be continued to Quaystreet. Breakwater-road could be closed, and the goods shed could be made on the sea side of the passenger etation, with a frontage to Quay-street, accessible by Queenstreet along Quay-street, or by Gore-street direct.—l am, &c, Tbue Pbogress. Auckland, August 17.
