CITY SCHOOLS' COMMITTEE.

The fortnightly mooting of the above committee took place last evening. Mr. W. Gorrio presided. All tho members of committee were present.

Finance.—Secretary read abstract of accounts for half-year ending 30th June, 1881. It showed balance in bank 31st December, 1880, 13s 6d; received from Board for past half-year, £150; total expenditure same period, £207 17s lid ; expenditure in excess of receipts, £57 4s oil.—lt was resolved to forward the abstract to Board, with a request for as increase to the school allowances.

Resignation.—Miss Jessie llcColl forwarded her resignation as pupil teacher, Beresfordstrest school, as she was entering Trainingschool, and requested that the right of a month's notice might be waived in her case. —Resignation accepted, but to hold office till successor appointed.

AB3EKCB from Duty.— A batch of apologies were read from various teachers for nonattendance to school duties.

Evening Classes, Bebesford - strebt School.—Air. Harrison, headmaster, applied for permission to resume erening classes in the above school. Mr. Hart, assisted by members of tho staff, would undertake tho duty.-rPer-mission was granted, and the committee arranged to meet the he-id-master on Tuesday evening, to arrange matters in connection therewith.

Nelson - street and Wellesley - street Schools. —It was resolved to advertise for an assistant teacher for Nelson-street school, and a second assistant teacher for Wellesley-streot. Evening Classes fob Street Arab3.—Mr. Thwaites stated that he had got a number of lads together who were desirous of attending a night school, but were unable to pay the necessary school fees through poverty. He proposed that the attention of the Board be directed to the matter, with a view to the establishment of an evening class for such lads at Wellesley-street E&st sobool, and that tho Board bp requested to subsidise the teacher for conducting it. The proposal, after some discussion, was carried.
